We are looking for lawyers with a passion for law and the environment: ELC Staff Counsel – Edmonton AB


Environmental Law Center is looking for a lawyer to join our team. Our work focuses on law reform, research and public legal education in the areas of environmental and natural resource law.

Legal staff are primarily involved in delivering our public programs, including researching and writing environmental legislation, participating in law reform initiatives, and creating and delivering educational materials to a variety of audiences. They are also expected to be involved in program development, grant applications and reporting, and fundraising support. Previous experience in environmental law, administrative and regulatory law will be an advantage. Knowledge and interest in environmental matters is also an advantage. Salary and benefits will be competitive within the charity sector.

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Membership (active practice status) or eligibility for such membership in the Law Society of Alberta;
  • Practical experience in the field of law and environmental issues;
  • Experience in legal practice (3 or more years preferred);
  • Strong research, writing and communication skills;
  • Public interest orientation;
  • A background in science is an advantage;
  • Self-motivated and self-directed;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to work with various stakeholders.
